Roger links up with Rose Zhang, the world's #1 amateur and current NCAA champion. Rose already has a huge impact on the game and future of the sport. She consistently has young golfers asking for advice and she feels the responsibility of inspiring the next generation of kids to play golf. With all the positive gravitas she seemingly has no haters, save for some trash talking friends. Roger asks Rose if this trajectory was all part of a plan and this is where we get a peak inside Rose’s psyche. She explains that none of it was intentional or planned out. She literally takes on life one day at time and lives in the present. We then get the story of how Rose began to play golf. She started her process at 9.5. Like we hear from all of the greats, she has this deep competitiveness that drives her. It started with stomping her classmates in tetherball in grade school then onto crushing golf in high school. When everyone else was riding bikes or studying too much she was grinding 5 hours a day on the course. What does this mindset and process translate to? It translates into shooting 7 over on 9 holes ONE MONTH after playing golf for her first time, she then parlayed that into winning a Junior Development Tournament the next month. Rose then commits to Stanford and focuses on the college experience and her game before talking NIL deals. She focused on her contributions to the team which netted her 3 Ws in her first 3 tournaments. Amongst all this Roger and her battle a bit about In-N-Out, don’t we all? We close the episode on Rose’s current game and goals (is she going pro?) And Roger throws down a one shot challenge to try and get some of that NIL money. Our big takeaways, Rose is a humble GOAT living in the present with absolutely no signs of slowing down. We eagerly await her next appearance. Callaway Golf’s “Range Talk” is a fun and authentic profile series hosted by Roger Steele, he set’s out to have the rillest conversations in golf history with absolute legends. #rangetalk
